A return to the new crypt! Wed 24th October Print E-mail

Image

I enjoyed playing at the new Cafe in the Crypt ! It seems odd to describe a Crypt as being new but there is prolific work being done to the whole of St Martin's Church. In fact the entire church is still covered in scaffold which you can see towering above all the other buildings around Trafalgar Square. Down in the crypt some of the glass fronts to the shops have been removed and the kitchen moved back to give nearly twice the size. Starting in 2008 the venue is going to be putting on Jazz events every week. I highly recommend this place as it's peaceful sanctuary set in the middle of a sometimes overwhelming central London. You can pop down anytime during the day to buy a meal or just a drink. Much of the proceeds go to help the homeless and the church.

Gig at the 606 on Tuesday 2nd October Print E-mail
ImageI'm playing a gig at the 606 on Tuesday with the band Flight . The band will start at about 10.15pm through until about 12am. The 606 brochure reads as follows;

PAUL CARMICHAEL BAND featuring ROB HUGHES & BARNABY DICKINSON. Paul is a terrific electric bass player who has been on the scene for a number of years now and includes work with the likes of iconic guitarist Alan Holdsworth on an impressive cv. The gig is a mixture of original material and jazz/”groove” standards from the seventies and eighties, all arranged by Paul. Featuring saxophonist Rob Hughes and one of the country’s finest trombonists, Barnaby Dickinson this is great contemporary music, brilliantly performed.Image

National Theatre Foyer Print E-mail

Image

I enjoyed an intimate concert yesterday at the National Theatre performing with Giorgio (Guitar) and Henrick (Double Bass). The theatre puts on free music concerts at the foyer music stage. Click this for more info. I also managed to have a look around the south bank before the gig and have a look at the new festival hall. The festival hall looks very cool with with it's new interior design. It also has built within the lower levels great shops and restaurants.

Jazz at the Portrait Gallery Print E-mail

Image I played a great concert at the National Portarit Gallery on Friday 10th August 2007. What an interesting  gig! Chairs were laid out around the pictures in a semi circle on the first floor. I performed with Giorgio Serci (Acoustic Guitar) and Henrik Jensen (Double Bass).The sound was perfect because of the linen backdrops behind the pictures. The only let down was my minidisc recorder, which decided to stop recording after a minute (The first minute sounded great, grrr!)

                  Also I didn't bring a camera as I knew that photo's were tightly controlled. However if any of the audience did take a sneeky shot please email me it. If you want to watch any of the concerts, they are on Friday's from 6.30pm till 7.30pm. The gallery showcase different styles of music every week not just jazz. Click here for the listings.
